I was a Design Strategist and Consultant for Koku over a period of 6 months.
I worked closely with the founders of the start-up to build and re-define their design goals. My scope as a consultant included start-up advisory and workflow implementation. The opinions on this project are solely my own and does not reflect Koku’s directions.
UX Designer 🎨
Created wireframes and high-fidelity screens for upcoming application launches for Web (Responsive) and Mobile (iOS/Android).
Design Thinking Facilitator / Expert 🤔
Facilitated 4 design sprints for their liquidity provider platform.
Design Consultant & Mentor👩🏫
Established a design system and workflow process for the start-up. Active mentor of their in-house designer & design intern until my exit.
FEATURED PROJECT – KOKU MOBILE
Koku Mobile Application
Designed a cross-currency payment platform in 3 weeks. The application is in development and its expected launch is in March 2019.
The application consists of three main features:
1) Currency Conversion
2) Payments / Remittance
3) Digital Wallet
Financial businesses, such as remittance houses, are not onboarded to using technology for their services. This results in a labour-intensive process that requires an up-keeping of physical administrative paperwork.
Long queues and high waiting times are one of the biggest pain points for the customers of such remittance houses, and such businesses hold a high risk of being unable to scale their business effectively due to the lack of digital processes.
I was tasked with an on-site observation & interview exercise to witness and understand the consumers’ journey and the degree of their frustrations.
USABILITY TESTING INSIGHTS
With the feedback gathered, it was clear that the flow of the application needs to be re-structured.
The new application is re-designed to reduce fear of users making transaction mistakes.
It was also clear that conversion was not a strong use case among the users, and a cross-currency payment system would suit their needs better.
The application is currently being developed and is expected to enter the market in March 2019. Though not perfect, this first draft designed will be a solid foundation for Koku to build their products upon in the future.
I created a draft of the typography and colour scheme for their digital products and future branding efforts. I also added new tools to the design workflow, such as using Abstract, Zeplin and Trello.
This laid down the foundation of building the design team and simplified the on-boarding process for our intern who joined in January 2019.
