Context

Learning to spell is one of the essential language learning mechanisms that leads to fluency. I got pretty bored of language classes just forcing memorisation on adult learners. It is ineffective, deters progress, and doesn't lead to fluency.

Hence I created a small little tool that blurts out random French words for the user to spell.

Future exploration

This is, of course, too random to be effective. Spelling tests usually occur after reading a chapter in our language book for comprehension, then grabbing a set of vocabulary from the read text for spelling tests.

A fuller and more effective system will have written text for comprehension, and a predefined spelling test from the reading text.

What's next?

This is just a quick mock-up to see what AI is capable of in a designer's hand. I would love to explore a full ecosystem of learning languages based on how I learned as a child, and eventually share that with the world.
